Rhys Williams is second on the left, Barrie Bratt standing beside, my ex Lotus61. I would have been there except my son was being born ... I know, I know ... lame excuse.

The story further told ... elaborates that if you see the rear inflatable slide doesn't touch the ground ... the inuries that did occur were from the stewardess tossing people out the back and hitting the pavement. The WSCC guys put a van under the slide to catch passengers, then helped them down. Maybe someone from WSCC has a bit more to add.
They also had tee shirts made with a photo on the plane on the front and "think metric" on the back. I would like one of those.
There is also another photo that was in the press at the time with one of the Johnston sports racers going through corner 8 with the Goose in the background. Would like that one too.

(ps - the movie wasn't great and I think had drag racers on the ground) _________________ Mike Adams

Hey Mike, do you know what was the grid for The Formula car that day ?
The guys in Australia who own a Hawke DL11 told me, he's car was there with the jet landed on the track. |

What is the name of the Australian? Might be in the photo. I don't have results from this event and have never confirmed the other three FFords on the grid.
Rhys and Barrie say the race meet went ahead just like any other race meet, race on Saturday, drink beer Saturday night, plane falls out of the sky, drink more beer, change to rum, get up Sunday morning, tell Air Canada the race is still going ahead, and if they don't like it they can move their plane.

The only car who looks like a Hawke DL11 is that one. The roll bar is different than the other one.

The story is now a one hour documentary playing on the Discovery Channel and replaying at various times this week.
http://www.discoverychannel.ca/schedule/default.aspx?timezone=EST&startdate=5/15/2008
I watch it last night and thought it was pretty good, except for the references to drag racing at the track when it was actually sports car road racing weekend.
Dino Calvert also did a few interview bits.
